Wollondilly Arts Group is very grateful for the CASP* grant that enabled us to offer a series of subsidised workshops. The inspiring workshops held in May & June introducing you to the art of ‘Encaustic Painting’ and ‘Image transfer’ with Mo Godbeer were a great success.

WORKSHOP 3: Polymer Screen Printing with Kathy Geurts

DATE: Saturday  22nd October 2011   ARRIVAL /SET-UP 9.30 am to START 10.00 am to 4 pm

COST: $25 members, $35 non members Plus a small kit fee of $ 25 for polymer silkscreen materials and printing frame which students will be take home. Both, workshop fee and kit fee to be paid with booking prior to workshop. VENUE: CWA Hall, York St, Tahmoor,  nearest cross streetLarkin St. off Remembrance Drive, Tahmoor.                              In this workshop students will learn how to reproduce their own artwork onto photopolymer silk screens.

These screens can be used to print onto fabrics, paper or polymer. We will be printing onto polymer and the student has the choice of making a piece of jewellery, a journal plate cover or piece of homeware.

There is no pressure to make a finished piece in the class should the student prefer to make several printed sheets of polymer which can be stored for many months before being applied to an end use. The Tutor – Kathy Geurts: Kathy is a mixed media artisan, creating, selling, and exhibiting her own range of jewellery and objets d’art under the Studio Amara brand, a fusion of design styles, techniques and materials resulting in one-off designs. She sells her work at numerous outlets in NSW, ACT and Victoria. She also designs for her other business ‘Versa’ – corporate communications graphics and print publication.

She is running her own beginners workshops in polymer clay and precious metal silver

jewellry design at the BDAS Gallery workshop, Bowral and Berrima Village Hall in

Berrima and working in collaboration with Benedict House, Queanbeyan, where she also

conducts workshops.

Saturday, 25th June 2011 WAG workshop Image Transfer with Mo Godbeer

Our second WAG workshop with Mo will cover the vast array of ways to achieve image transfer in your encaustic work. Learn how to do numerous image transfer techniques using carbon paper, charcoal, graphite, printouts. Details can be downloaded from our download page. You can create your work on wax using your own printed images. There are so many ways to work with image transfer and encaustic.

A material fee of $20 applies to be paid to Mo on the day 
WAG will buy plywood boards which will be available for $6/4 boards

Saturday, 28th May 2011 WAG Workshop - Encaustic Painting with Mo Godbeer

In our first workshop with Mo you will learn about the history of encaustic, studio safety and how to prepare your own encaustic medium and paints. Tutor Mo Godbeer will go through board preparation, fusing, and layering to achieve amazing effects with beeswax and resin. You can expect to take home 4 completed pieces. Mo will impart her vast knowledge of encaustic and share with you loads of tips and tricks for working in encaustic. Each student will receive a worksheet with encaustic recipes, resource guide and instructions to take home.

Works by WAG 5 - the opening of the Annual exhibition of works by the Wollondilly Arts Group will on Friday, 25th March, 2011,  6pm at Tahmoor House, 27 Remembrance Drive, Tahmoor 2573 NSW. Our patron, Wollondilly Mayor, Michael Banasik will open the exhibition.

Exhibition will be open Friday 25th 4pm - 8pm,  Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th March from 10am - 4pm. Entry is via the car park@ www.tahmoor-house.com

Conducted by well known local artist Steve Underwood a fulltime artist and a gifted teacher, teaching both beginners and advanced and works mainly in oils, but will do this workshop for us in acrylics.(Oil if you want to). He paints in a real but impressionistic style and enjoys painting landscape and portraiture.

 We will be painting ‘Cows on the Bank’  Size roughly around 42cm x 30cm
(approx. A3) or whatever size you would prefer. Please bring;
any acrylic paints you may have OR Oils, BRING all your colours but need basic colours:  red, yellow, blue, white, PLUS YELLOW OCHRE, as well as FLAT bristle brushes, a medium detail brush.
Pencil and paper for notetaking. Your own canvas board, canvas or paper, you will need to prep the board or canvas with 2 coats of gesso Also bring the normal paper towels, palette and brushes, an easel to support the size of the board.    John is a self taught artist whose paintings are traditional in essence, they have a wonderful ‘painterly’ feel  which is much admired by both the public and his peers.

   Winning many awards for his work, including the Australian Artist Magazine ‘National Seascape Competition’ in 2000 , he has featured in the magazine on eight occasions.  Regularly demonstrating and teaching art throughout Sydney and New South Wales, he has a reputation for conducting workshops that are well structured and easy to follow.    John will be providing each artist with a reference photo for the main subject including figures, but please feel free to bring your own figure photos suitable for inclusion in a seascape. We will be masking off a 40 cm x 30 cm board and doing TWO  small seascape sketches on the ONE canvas board. The paintings above were done in an actual workshop.


 

Saturday 26th FEB 2011 PAINTING WORKSHOP WITH ROS PSAKIS is now fully booked

This will be an exciting painting opportunity, not to be missed. Ros Psakis has been three times overall winner of  the Art of Sydney Awards and is a regular tutor at Kurrajong, she has also been featured several times in  The Australian Artist Magazine. MATERIALS: Usual oil painting equipment:

Size 18x15inch, can be canvas board or craft wood or paper-on support . don’t forget to prep your board with 2 coats gesso. The OIL PAINTING PAPER is good also and does not need prepping.  Oil paints and OIL painting paper can be purchased from the Chinese-bargain shops, with paints priced for about $6.00 per set:

Please bring pencil and paper for notetaking, paper towels, palette and brushes.

·                         Please bring an easel to support the size of the board.

·                         Couple of bulldog clips

·                         Odourless solvent or low odour turps to wash brushes in.

·                         Rags for clean-up
