MATERIALS 

WARM PRIMARY OIL COLOURS (or acrylics if you wish): French Ultramarine, Cadmium Scarlet (or  

a warm mid red), Yellow Ochre or Raw Sienna and a mid yellow. 

COOL PRIMARY COLOURS: Cobalt Blue, Alizarin Crimson (or Permanent Alizarin, Rose Madder 

Genuine, etc) and Lemon Yellow (Cad Lemon etc). 

ALSO: Viridian (or Hookers Green), Burnt Sienna (or Indian Red) and Titanium White. 

BRUSHES: El cheapo “Eterna” or “Roymac” No’s.12 – 4 will suffice, and a fine Liner brush 

and a couple of good small square brushes.


No.1 Medium, Citrus Turps or Odourless Solvent only. Please respect other students’ 

health by not using Gum or Mineral Turps for painting. 


2 x 12” x 16” (or slightly larger if you wish), Gesso’ed MDF (Craft) 3mm boards, stretched 

canvases or canvas boards etc., and loosely under-paint thinly with Raw Sienna, Yellow 

Ochre or a neutral colour (with acrylic if possible, so that they are completely dry), to get 

rid of the white. We may even get time for a second painting. 


WAG have 6 x floor, 2 x Table easels, inquire when booking.   W.A.G. Have DROP SHEETS in case of accidents! 


Bob will take you through the course with step-by-step demonstrations from one or two landscape photographs;  

with advice on composition, tone and colour mixing using a limited palette. 

Please note you will not achieve the same quality work using cheap student quality paints. If you don’t have  

all artist quality paints, I will give you a couple of dollops on your palette! It is false economy to buy, or use
